2019 Holiday Trunk Show

I know it seems like we are pushing the season, but sometimes we need to make that work-life balance decision :)  The annual Holiday Trunk show is November 16, 2019, from 11-3 (1104 Middletown Rd, Greensburg, PA 15601) and will also feature Marlene's Baked Goods. I mean, a little jewelry shopping, a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and all of Marlene's treats?!? Yes, please! 

There will be plenty of baubles and baked goods for you to stock up for the holidays. This is your last chance this year to purchase Zippity Doodads pieces from me directly, but you can always make an appointment to swing by, DM me for something that caught your eye on Instagram or Facebook, or stop by the Westmoreland Museum of Art's Museum Shop. The Shop will be kicking off their holiday shop the same weekend: November 15-17th.

So consider stopping by, we'll be here making merry and ringing in the holiday spirit!!

We are jammin'!!!

Garnet Hill said it best: We are at the crossroads of two seasons. We are still enjoying those hot, long sunny days but with an eye on those warm fall days and cool evenings.  August is also a time that gardeners love! All our spring and early summer efforts are very literally coming to fruition. We are picking, preserving and canning. Pickling is my favorite but oh! those jams and jellies made with juicy berries and stone fruit!!

I was thinking of those raspberries, figs, plums, and crimson apples while mulling about in my studio and started to pull my pink, red, and purple stones. Sometimes a simple, uncomplicated strand of lush rich gemstones says it all....And I DO love uncomplicated!

Summertime, and the livin' is easy....

Sometimes simple is better. That's my philosophy for most of my jewelry designs. Simplicity gives you the most wearability, they become that easy choice, the go-to pieces, effortless wearability. Light and breezy for warm summer skin and easily layered as the temperatures cool. I like to let the gemstones speak for themselves....Exotic rubies, pool-blue apatite, creamy pearls, and luminescent moonstone....

I've been busy working on custom pieces for brides and they certainly run the gamut from super delicate to contemporary to eye-catching drops.... But these aren't just for brides, pearls suit everyone!

It's time for an affair...

....An Artful Affair!!! 

There are twelve talented makers busily creating beautiful pieces of art (and most definitely I consider Marlene's cookies and pastries to be art) for our spring event. We have everything from handcrafted organic soaps, pottery, needlework, custom frames, to some Pennsylvania distilled spirits. Zippity Doodads has been busy the last few months creating fresh new designs with inspiration from the East Coast and the beautiful color palette that Garnet Hill assembled for their catalogs.  

Here are a few things that have come from my recent studio work....

The season is just getting started!  After the Artful Affair, Zippity Doodads will be focusing on the summer schedule for the Ligonier Country Market.  All dates are posted to the right  ---->  The Market has a map on their website making it easy for you to locate Zippity Doodads on the weeks I attend. You can also sign up for text alerts on their website!

Super blood wolf moon......Heck, just that MOON!

It has been a typical January in western Pennsylvania: expectations of snow and getting a little, freezing rain, gray days, cold nights, and then that big cold January full moon. I don't know where you take your inspiration but mine always seems to come unexpectedly and then it stays with me for a while until I exhaust its potential. For example, a few nights ago when I stayed up and watched the lunar eclipse.  That night I dreamt of cold shiny silver and gleaming luminescent pearls.  I mulled it over, did a few sketches, and then today I sat down to work.  The designs kept coming and I hated to stop for a break to tell you about them. But, hey, why don't I just show you....

I really like the luminous coin pearl floating on the hammered sterling disc.... I mean how lunar can it get?!?  (And shout out to Pamelajean Werner Handwoven Shawls for the beautiful wraps!!)

After I made the necklace I was thinking about winter and how we live in layers and how I really like the layered look of necklaces, especially when each piece is simple but vary in texture. That is really appealing to me as well. All that in mind and, voila! Leather! Pearls! Sterling!

The last design I sat with the longest. I am a sucker for color but I was really craving a design that embraced the neutral colors of winter: dark dramatic nights, gray skies, brown bark, and that white moon again. What else speaks to that lustrous moon theme better than Moonstone, and below it is presented in two ways: the strand of small white iridescent faceted stones and the creamy gray-brown polished nuggets. Add quartz, matte onyx, natural coral, and a Lake Michigan beach stone and you have my latest piece.

It is about an hour until sunset and the clear skies are going to give me another spectacular evening of moon watching. It is going to be a good night!
